BloomStudio — Free Demo

A whole 2D game studio that runs in your browser tab. No install, no account, no waiting.

Paint your sprites. Build your rooms. Write your dialogue. Compose your music. Hit RUN and play the thing you just made.

BloomStudio is a complete game maker and engine in a single page — the editor and the game live in the same place, so there's no export step between having an idea and playing it. Draw a character, drop them in a room, press play. That's the whole loop.

Three kinds of game, one editor

Every room you make picks its own style, and you can mix them in a single project:

  • Top-down — Zelda-style overworlds, dungeons, puzzle rooms
  • Side-scroll — platformers with real jump physics you can tune
  • First-person — raycast corridors and maze crawlers

What you can build

Paint everything Sprite, tile, and decor editors with live preview, 16/32/64 canvas sizes, animation frames with per-sprite speed control, and 9-way anchoring. Import and export sprite sheets as PNG if you'd rather draw elsewhere.

Fill it with stuff Over 30 entity types — NPCs, enemies, spawners, turrets, spikes, platforms, teleports, save stations, signs, chests, locked doors, potions, power-ups, dig spots, and more. Two decor layers so things can sit in front of or behind the player.

Build real puzzles Push blocks that ride conveyor belts. A Block Reset switch so puzzle rooms are replayable. Gates and switches in four colour channels for layered locks. Paintable fog-of-war that reveals permanently as you explore. Ramps you slide down. Timers with HUD chips.

Arm your hero Guns, beams, bombs, missiles, a morph ball — plus a Hookshot with grabbable Hook Blocks and an adjustable chain range, and a Shovel for digging up buried secrets. Tune jump power, hang time, and fall speed until it feels right.

Bring a friend (or a dog) Two-player co-op on a second gamepad — player two is a sidekick dog who pounces, digs, scouts ahead, and fits through pet doors your hero can't. When you get separated, a little radar picture-in-picture shows where everyone is.

Make it look like somewhere Room backgrounds — night sky, sunset, forest, cave, dunes, ocean, city — plus a randomizer with hue, vividness, light and grain sliders and five pattern overlays. Six studio themes and three fonts if you want the editor itself to match your mood.

Give it a soundtrack Built-in chiptune music composer, sound effect banks, and an FX rack with echo, distortion, and phaser. Set different music per room.

Tell a story Dialogue trees, logic rules, scene transitions, story pages, and a drag-to-arrange world map for laying out how your rooms connect.

Plays however you play

Fully supported on keyboard + mouse, gamepad, and touch. Mouse aiming with a crosshair, 360° stick aim, on-screen touch controls with tap-or-hold aiming, and auto-run on mobile so you're never fighting for a third thumb. There's a thorough manual built right into the editor.

What's in the free demo

Everything above. All the tools, all the entities, all three room modes, all the weapons, the music composer, the dog, the manual — the whole engine, no features held back.

The demo caps scale, not capability:

  • 3 rooms per project
  • 1 project file
  • 50 sprites

That's enough to build a genuinely finished little game — a start room, a puzzle, and a boss fight. Plenty of people will never need more.

Publishing and backups are free, always. You can always download your project as a .bloom.json file and load it back in later.

⚠ About saving

This browser demo may not remember your work between visits. Browsers restrict storage for pages embedded in another site, so depending on your browser your project might not still be here when you come back.

Use the BACKUP · .BLOOM.JSON button on the Project card to download your work before you close the tab. You can import it again any time — in the demo or in the full version.

If you want your projects to just be there every time, that's what the full version is for.

Want more room?

The full version lives at spiralside.com — one payment, yours forever:

  • 100 rooms — build a real overworld
  • Unlimited sprites and animation frames
  • 10 project files, all backed up to the cloud
  • Your work follows you between devices, and survives clearing your browser
  • Every future engine update

Free account to start, and the full game maker unlock is a one-time $3.

Notes

BloomStudio is made by one person and it's still growing — new features land regularly. If something breaks or you make something cool with it, I'd love to hear about it.
